Introduction
Streaming Telemetry with NX-OS

About this Workshop

Visibility into the state of the network, is critical to the optimal operation of modern day networks. The ability to consume and act upon the state of the network has become integral to every modern NOC and monitoring infra. In this session, we will cover how operational state data can be gathered via Telegraf, stored within InfluxDB and displayed via Grafana, to showcase how telemetry can be used to provide deep operational visibility, to monitor and operate your Datacenter. We will walk through the process of browsing relevant data points via YANG Suite and how a sample setup can be instantiated via docker and docker-compose. Time permitting, we wil show how this data can be integrated to Big Data or AI/ML applications via Apache Kafka.

Lab Content

During this lab you will work through the following tasks:

  1. Compare and Contrast Dial-in vs Dial-out Streaming Telemetry
  2. Browse YANG Suite for Interesting X-Paths
  3. Build a Telegraf Configuration File
  4. Build a Grafana Dashboard and Visualise the Data
  5. Bonus Task (Time Permitting): Exporting Data to Kafka
